Turn the kids (& kids at heart) loose to explore the historic homestead & beautiful meadows, forests and streams. Join them on trails that lead in every direction to magical spots & mysterious destinations. There is so much to do at Wit’s End.
Sitting at the confluence of 3 beautiful mountain streams in the center of the quiet bucolic & historic Conasauga valley, Wit’s End occupies the former sight of a beautiful farm with meadows, streams and gorgeous forests. The 20 acre Wit’s End estate is the perfect place to accomplish your family or group’s goals while also helping each of you unplug and push the reset button in the beauty that is Wit’s End.
Connected to the dining room and kitchen, the great room enjoys the same room design as the dining room. Enormous floor to ceiling casement windows on 2 walls provide views of the creek, meadow and valley. Natural light streams in from the skylights in the vaulted ceiling. Heavy duty posts and beams give the room a lodge-like feel. In the center of the room is a stack stone fireplace with heavy-duty hearth. The room is decorated with art inspired by the estate and surrounding area. 2 separate seating areas with comfy overstuffed furniture allow for intimate conversations among friends. The room certainly lends itself to reading and napping around a fire in the fireplace. There’s even a game table in the corner when it’s time to break out scrabble or a puzzle. However, all the seating areas can also work together to host the whole gang for games later the evening when everyone is around. 20+ people can comfortably enjoy being together on existing seating and feel free to pull in a couple dining room chairs and there’s room for even more fun.
The enormous kitchen was thoughtfully designed and is well equipped to support preparing and serving meals for groups of 3-30. Connected to the great room and dining room, those working in the kitchen can remain part of the action while cooking and preparing meals for the whole crowd. Visit with fellow guests as they settle up at bar stools to the enormous island where food preparation takes place. There’s plenty of counter space for multiple helpers and there’s an abundance of cabinet space to store everything you’ll need. Speaking of equipment, in the kitchen area there are 2 large refrigerator/freezers, 2 ovens, 2 large basin sinks and 2 dishwashers. To keep your guests from clogging up the kitchen there’s a separate drink station area with undercounter beverage refrigerator, built-in ice maker and small sink. In addition, there is a butler’s pantry that contains an abundance of dry good storage, one of the sinks and dishwashers, as well as one of the ovens. The butler’s pantry has its own entrance from the driveway to make loading and unloading into the kitchen a snap.
The generous kitchen opens out into an enormously spacious dining room bathed in natural light by 3 sets of floor to ceiling casement windows on two walls that give the room the feel of being one with the outdoors. The windows provide views of Conasauga Creek flowing through the meadow below and the mountain valley beyond. Vaulted ceilings and heavy duty post and beam construction provides the room with a sense of grandeur. In addition, skylights, recessed lighting and double chandeliers provide dimmable lighting options for any occasion including wedding rehearsals and family reunion & retreat dinners. The room is anchored by 2 identical custom hand built farm tables that grace the space. Each table was designed especially for the space and was lovingly hand crafted by a friend of the family who happens to be a master craftsman. Each table was built with ancient posts and beans taken from a historic barn in the heartland of Ohio. Each table is 10 feet long and can seat up to 12 people. A nearby game table can double as a dining room table as well, increasing meal time seating capacity to 28.
Beginning October 1, 2023 we bring on 2 additional bedrooms for a total of 7 generous sized bedrooms. 5 bedrooms will have a queen size bed or larger and 6 of the bedrooms will have adjoining private bathrooms. In addition to the 5 queen/king rooms there are also 2 bunk rooms, one that sleeps 6+ (and has a private bathroom) and another that sleeps 4 and has its own dedicated bathroom just steps away down the hall.
The second floor has 2 primary bedrooms with adjoining private bathrooms. One bedroom has a king bed, with an antique door for a headboard. It overlooks the valley below. The other bedroom has a queen bed and has tranquil views into the hemlock forest behind the house.
The terrace level has 4 bedrooms. 2 bedrooms sport stunning views of the valley and creek below through large casement windows. Each bedroom also has post and beam constructed ceilings to add character to each room. One bedroom features a king bed and has a private bathroom. The other bedroom has a queen bed and also has a private bathroom. In addition, there are two bunk rooms. The larger bunk room had 4 full size beds and 2 twins (sleeping 6+) and has a private bath. The other bunk room sleeps 4 and has a dedicated bathroom down a short hallway.
On the first floor there is a 7th bedroom and ensuite bathroom for those who don’t relish climbing stairs.
Just off the kitchen and dining room is the generous sized covered porch and deck. The porch has a conversation seating area for 7-8 people and a picnic table that can comfortably seat 8-10. Catch some rays out on the deck that sits among the tree tops. The porch and deck are perfect places to read a book or commune with nature as you listen to the birds sing, the wind rustle through the leaves and take in the sound of the stream rushing through the valley below. The deck is handily equipped with a Weber gas grill as well.
Wit’s End has beautiful floors throughout the entire home. Hand selected rugs fill each room. The house is furnished with items that have been passed down through the generations or lovingly collected by the owners during their lifetime. Most of the art has been handcrafted by local artists and is inspired by the property itself or the mountains that surround the estate. It all works together to create a sense of comfort, welcome and belonging.
Watch the game or movies in the comfy, cozy terrace level great room. The room features post and beam ceilings, a custom built gas fireplace, a 55″ (Wi-Fi enabled) TV with DVD player, a Proline Billiard/Pool table, and beautiful views of the valley. Bring your favorite DVDs from home, pick up a few at the Red Box in town, or a select from our DVD collection. This “away space” is ideal for the kids or those in your party who need a break from the action upstairs.
The entire home is oriented to the great outdoors, with every room having large windows and views of the beautiful natural surroundings.

While I truly enjoy hiking and backpacking, a short stroll or lingering for a few minutes to soak in creation at Wit’s End can be a magical experience. Enhancing nature’s beauty through landscaping brings me deep satisfaction and sharing and introducing people to the works of nature is thrilling.
